Fundraising video for Oxford Brookes University

The Brookes University Boat Club

The club has produced some of the best rowers in the world. Rowers have achieved a  haul of gold medals at Olympic and World Championship level that stretches back more than a decade and Brookes oarsmen won a gold and three silver medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

It is the intention of the University to extend the squad’s modest Boathouse on the River Thames near Wallingford to give athletes the training facilities to match their ambitions and achievements. The Centre for Rowing Campaign aims to raise £1 million by the end of 2010 to give our rowers as much use of the new boathouse as possible before London 2012.

Mary Wakefield project manager

Mary is responsible for fundraising activities for the new boat house and she wanted to produce a promotional video that would attract sponsors and investors. Mary chose Reputation Selling to produce such a video. We were delighted to be selected to carry out this work. Our first task was to familiarise ourselves with the detail of the project with Mary. Jon Devitt our videographer visited a rowing session to interview Richard Spratley, Director of rowing at Oxford Brookes University. Jon took footage of the rowers in action and then cleverly spliced it with an existing video of an artist’s impression of the boat house building.

After approval of the video by senior stakeholders in the University the video was embedded into a PDF of their University magazine called Observe and emailed to 16,000 alumni members, other stakeholders were directed to it by way of a postcard campaign. Hard copies of the magazine were distributed to 50,000 people and the video had its pride of place on the website.
